It seems that whenever one of my clients is on a
verge of a major breakthrough, there’s a
teeny-weeny little breakdown that happens first.
I call it ‘teeny weeny” because it looks like
just part of life.
What do I mean by a breakdown?
You know, those annoying little tolerances like a
slow-dripping faucet, or a key that you need to
jiggle before it works, or a light bulb that needs
to be changed, or a dresser drawer that sticks.
Sometimes the annoying things you tolerate are
bigger and more draining, though.
For example, an attack of afternoon fatigue that
you fight off every day, or (if you’re honest with
yourself) the job you genuinely despise.
Putting up with these annoyances, though, is
actually like walking around wearing a heavy,
sagging backpack full of rocks.
Let me explain…
There are always reasons for why you put up with
things you don’t like.
One of things you might tell yourself is: “it’s
just not the right time.”
After all, there are so many other things to do,
right?
So you continue to endure these annoyances.
Believing that maybe they’ll just suddenly get
better.
But they don’t.
You might not realize it, but these daily
tolerances are costing you valuable energy.
Precious energy that you could be applying toward
being wildly successful and ridiculously happy!
When you carry around a big backpack full of
heavy rocks, you become so used it that you forget
what it’s like to live without it.
But, if you let go of the burden, you’ll feel so
much lighter — as though you could float with
ease and joy through your daily life.
Ahhhhh. Doesn’t that sound nice?
So, let me pose to you the question I ask my
clients who are putting up with such an
energy-draining tolerance: How long are you
willing to put up with it?
Will you be okay with things staying like this
for a year?
If that seems too long, then how about six
months?
Still too long? How about two months?
What if instead you make the choice to free
yourself of these inconveniences and problems?
What if you fix the faucet or change the light
bulb?
Or, better yet, what if you tweak your eating
habits so that you are energized all day long and
start working in a career that you love?
Now how different will your life be?
That’s what I’m talking about!
No matter what you are tolerating, isn’t now the
time for you to release your heavy burdens, clear
out the energy-draining annoyances, and live with
more ease and joy?
